The Town is on Fire

I've walked this world over until I came to this town.
Looking for anything, searching up and down
for something, someone to save me from this blight.
I'm tired of the day, I can't wait for the night.
But still the sweltering heat, it burns my feet
and melts the street when we first meet.
My mind is full of sweat, my eyes blurred from the sun.
My glasses turn the world sepia until the light is done.
But as we walk, while sun turns to moon, my glasses stay on.
You've sparked my existence and suddenly it doesn't feel as hot
on my skin but now my mind is on fire as I give you what I've got.
Come out of the desert and happened to be found by you
I jog to catch up as I've fallen behind you.
You laugh and I laugh and the hot hot street no longer feels like heat
but electricity and every step is a jolt, a charge of joy in the moment of
hot simplicity.
We lay in the cool grass like ships in a sea of green and I perceive something
I have never seen.
You grab my hand to take me home and my glasses lay, left among the leaves.
